Article 1 Response

This article was very informative for me. Grammar is not something I put a lot of thought into, and never really have. I wouldn’t say that I’m an expert at it in any way; it is honestly one of my biggest struggles. However, I felt like I knew many of the rules that were brought up in this article, I just don’t always put them into practice.

I also really enjoyed this author’s style of writing. It was to the point and formal but at the same time relaxed and enjoyable to read, even funny in a way at times. The grammar rule that probably took me by surprise the most, and I would say I have the most trouble with is, knowing when to use Me, Myself and I.
“There's a similar attraction to using the subject instead of object. Even Bill Clinton did this back in 1992 when he asked voters to give Al Gore and I [instead of me] a chance to bring America back. Or you might say, Thanks for inviting my wife and I, or between you and I…”
Even after reading over the rule I’m not fully sure I know how to apply this correctly. I tend to always just use I. this always seemed correct before know, and nobody ever corrected me, so I was under the impression that I was using correct grammar. I’m glad that I read over this, because now I know and can hopefully start to apply it to my writing more frequently.

That isn’t the only rule that I need to pay closer attention to, but it is probably the only one that I didn’t know before today. I’m not sure that I was ever taught the other rules, or if I kind of just picked them up over time from reading and having paper edited by others. So it was interesting to see the official rules in a list, and knowing that I am doing something right, and not just fumbling my way through.

I decided to add this picture, because to me it says “who knew?” This was pretty much my mind set the whole time while reading this article. If it wasn’t that I was thinking, “Well yeah that just sounds right.” But I still didn’t know it was an official rule, so therefore I came back around to the “who knew?”
